In the mid-1990s, Mayflower Transit was looking to improve it's financial health. Consolidation with another key carrier seemed to be the answer. During this same period, UniGroup and United Van Lines were experiencing healthy growth and increasing market share. The UniGroup board recognized the opportunity and soon acquired Mayflower Transit. Always considered the industry leader, UniGroup made moving history by completing the acquisition in March 1995, thus catapulting them to an all time high market share.
