
Kit Newkirk opened the 1st Game Preserve store October 1, 1980 in an old house in the funky Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis. The shelves were stocked with Monopoly, Scrabble, chess, backgammon, Pente, and playing cards. Trivial Pursuit would soon be invented. Dungeons and Dragons was a little known newcomer. Bill Lorton joined her as a partner in early 1981. In 1983, we decided to move the Game Preserve about a mile from Broad Ripple to the Galleria at Glendale, Indianapolis' oldest enclosed mall.
